$246.7M contract awarded for new METRONET Midland Station
The Midland Junction Alliance has been awarded a $246.7 million contract by the Western Australian Government to design and construct the new Midland Station in Perth.
The project involves relocating the Midland Station to the Midland Town Centre (Cale Street) and extending the line to Bellevue.
The Alliance, comprising McConnell Dowell Constructors, Georgiou Group, Arcadis Australia, and BG&E, will design and build the new three-platform face station between Helena and Cale streets. The contract also includes decommissioning and demolishing the existing 53-year-old station.
As well as building the main station building, the METRONET project will include a 12-stand bus interchange, a new multi-storey car park with more than 600 bays, a north-south pedestrian overpass, passenger toilets, eight lifts, stairs, a kiosk and secure parking for 96 bicycles.
The new location brings the station closer to the Midland CBD, improving access between the station and important sites such as the Midland Health Centre and Midland Gate Shopping Centre.
The new station is expected to initially see 3300 passenger boardings a day, growing to 3700 by 2031.
Federal Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, Paul Fletcher said the project would play an important role in supporting the growth of Perth.
“Working in close partnership with the WA Government, we are getting on with the job of delivering critical infrastructure projects that improve public transport connections and congestion for communities across Perth, and provide a boost to local jobs and the economy.”
Replacing Midland Station was a key state election commitment, WA Transport Minister, Rita Saffioti said.
“As a more modern facility built closer to the hustle and bustle of the Midland CBD, the new Midland Station will be a brilliant entry statement for those visiting the area for work, shopping, school or just to enjoy one of the most history-rich areas in metropolitan Perth.
