Workplace Manslaughter Laws Now In Effect
As of 1st July 2020 new workplace manslaughter laws are now in effect with employers now liable in cases where negligence contributes to a worker dying on the job. Penalties include up to 25 years in jail for individuals and up to $16m fines for corporations. In related changes, Worksafe is updating its statistical aggregation rules to include workers killed whilst driving, suicides linked to workplace behavior (such as bullying) and industrial diseases (such as silicosis).
