Work starts on Stockyard Hill Wind Farm
Construction has started on Australia’s largest wind farm near Beaufort in Victoria.
The 149 turbine Stockyard Hill Wind Farm located around 35 kilometres west of Ballarat is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 340,000 homes across the state.
It will also deliver 300 jobs during construction and inject more than $5 million into the local economy each year.
Other projects underway or proposed include Lal Lal, Moorabool, Murra Warra, Bulgana and Golden Plains – which is set to be even bigger than Stockyard Hill.
Eight wind farms have been built since 2014 and another nine new wind farms are under construction.
It is part of the State Government’s Victorian Renewable Energy Target of 25 per cent by 2020 and 40 per cent by 2025.
The wind farm is due to be operational by late 2019.
