WeWork takes whole office building at Sydney’s Barangaroo
Global space, community, and services company, WeWork will lease all six floors of commercial office space at 1 Sussex St, Sydney, and is understood to be working on a second major deal for space in Mirvac’s new Ann Street office tower in Brisbane.
In Sydney WeWork will take its first whole building lease inside Lendlease’s award-winning Barangaroo South precinct, occupying 100 per cent of the building’s office component or about 10,000 square metres of high-quality office space.
It will also take an outdoor terrace on Level 6 and access to 680 square metres of retail on the ground floor. All up it will be enough space for 2000 members.
The building, called Daramu House, will include the use of sustainable timbers, as well as roof-top planting to capture rain, and solar cells to provide power to the building.
Jonathan Kearins, senior director of Real Estate, WeWork Australia and New Zealand, said the building lease was a “milestone” building for WeWork in Australia.
“Diversity of locations is key to our network strategy, and the position of this site at Barangaroo provides an excellent location for our community, adding to our fast-growing Sydney CBD portfolio.”
Many of WeWork’s enterprise members are already located within the Barangaroo precinct.
Separately WeWork is also close to signing a deal of up to 9000 square metres in Mirvac’s Ann Street development which it is building for local insurance group Suncorp’s new headquarters. It announced its first Queensland location will open this year at 310 Edward Street in Brisbane.
