VIDEO: Massive 650 tonne generator hauled across Victoria
A 650 tonne Superload, longer than an A380, has safely made it’s 200km journey from Traralgon to the Port of Melbourne over the weekend.
Street signs, power lines and traffic lights had to be removed by a busy team of VicRoads employees to make way for the convoy, which crawled along at about 15 to 20km/h in the dead of the night.
The generator was taken offline last October and is being sent for maintenance in Germany before being brought back into operation later this year.
The generator will be refurbished at the original manufacturer Siemens’ specialist factory that is set up for this type of work with the required equipment and expertise, according to AGL Energy.
