Victoria Bans Dry-Cutting Crystalline Silica Products

The Victorian State Government has launched a blitz on the construction industry banning dry-cutting products containing crystalline silica. The move is in response to a growing fear of health issues in the industry caused by inhaling silica dust leading to degenerative conditions and cancer.
The move includes:
A state-wide ban on uncontrolled dry-cutting and polishing of materials that contain crystalline silica dust.
Free health screening for 1400 Stonemasons.
A tough new compliance code for businesses working with silica
An awareness campaign to highlight the risks of working with engineered stone.
