Submarine construction site on track in SA
Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne said the application to the Port Adelaide Enfield Council is an important step and keeps the government on schedule to turn the first sod at the Osborne North site later this year.
“Development of the yard will deliver more opportunities for Australian industry to get involved in the future submarine program,” Mr Pyne said in a statement on Tuesday.
Australian Naval Infrastructure will deliver the construction yard where the navy’s new fleet of 12 submarines will be built at a cost of about $50 billion.
Submarine construction is expected to begin in 2022.
