Stage 4 Lockdown Confirmed To Hit Construction
Victorian Premier Dan Andrews has today announced the shutdown measures that will apply to business in the state under Stage 4 Lockdown. For the first time, construction has not escaped the significant restrictions seen in industries such as hospitality and retail. There are still some gaps that we need to understand but essentially:
- Major civil and infrastructure projects will continue on a skeleton ‘maintenance’ basis.
- Major developments in non-residential over 3 stories in height will be restricted to 25% of their current workforce on site.
- Residential development sites will be restricted to 5 personnel on site at a time.
- Hardware suppliers such as Bunnings will not be open to customers beyond ‘click and collect’ or online orders.
Less clear is how this filters through to suppliers to the industry such as timber, steel, materials and services such as equipment rental.
More to follow soon.
