Shell commits to Gangarri Solar
Royal Dutch Shell has committed to its first major solar plant development in Australia with the 120MW Gangarri plant near Wandoan to proceed. The company has declined to put a price tag on the project but it is expected to be operational by early 2021 with 200 construction jobs. It is welcome news in a sector that has seen a significant decline in its project pipeline over the past 12-18months on the back of policy uncertainty and commercial concerns. The development will primarily supply Queensland Gas Companies CSG operations in the region and is claimed to save up to 300,000 tonnes of emissions per year.
