Residential Apartment Building Act to go live

September 1st 2020 sees the new Residential Apartment Buildings Act take effect in NSW. Drafted in the wake of the structural building issues identified in 2018/19 the Act is the first tool of NSW Building Commissioner David Chandler. Key powers include:

• The ability to prevent occupation certificates from being issued
• Enter and inspect sites without a warrant and seize information
• Issue stop-work orders.
