Northern Adelaide Irrigation Scheme
The $155.6 million Northern Adelaide Irrigation Scheme (NAIS) will see new water treatment facilities built within the Bolivar precinct to increase its production of recycled irrigation water by 60 per cent.
New infrastructure will include a new advanced water recycling plant a large transfer main pump stations above- and below-ground storage and a distribution network. The infrastructure is separate to the existing Virginia Pipeline Scheme (VPS) which already supplies recycled water to the Virginia area.
The preferred location for the above-ground (earth banked storage) has been identified at the corner of Hart Road and Porter Road Korunye. This location was chosen based on community feedback SA Water received during a community consultation period in April 2018.
Construction of the new recycled water pipeline commenced in April 2018 at the Bolivar Wastewater Treatment Plant. The new recycled water main will be laid in stages with construction moving along the pipe alignment as the works progress. The majority of the main will be laid in road reserve. We are anticipating bulk earthworks for the above-ground storage in Korunye to commence September 2018. The project is on track to deliver first water to customers in 2019.
Around 150 jobs will be created during the construction phase of the project.
This project will deliver up to 12 GL (Stage 1) of reclaimed water suitable for commercial food production. NAIS infrastructure will treat store and transport climate and season independent water to the farm gate. The infrastructure will be planned for up to 20GL to enable future growth.
The project is on track to deliver first water to customers in 2019.
