New heat guidelines for trades in Brisbane
A new policy produced by the CFMMEU and taken up by 140 contractors and subcontractors could see workers in Brisbane stop-work when the thermometer reaches 28C and 75% humidity. The policy states that after 3 hours from the commencement of a shift where the conditions apply work will cease (subject to safety and completion of critical tasks). Some industry groups are already questioning why the policy should be adopted in South-East Queensland when workers in the rest of the state are regularly subject to the same if not higher environmental conditions but still expected to work.
