New 700 Bed Prison Announced in Victoria

The Victorian State Government has announced a new 700 bed maximum security prison to be constructed near the existing Barwon facility in Lara. In addition to the new facility, the $1.8Bn will includes upgrades to existing women’s facilities and a portion to rehabilitation programs.

Construction is expected to start by the end of 2019.
