NELA Tender in disarray – Vic Labor in Damage Control

The tender process for the North East Link Project is in disarray after bombshell announcements in the space of 24 hours. On Friday, the CPB led consortium (Onelink) admitted to journalists that it planned to withdraw from the tender process. This led to only two groups in the running: Spark and Vianova. The problem now, is that Spark is advised by Lendlease Engineering and Vianova includes Acciona – the sale of LL to Acciona being confirmed on Friday. This means that not only is the ‘competitive’ tender process narrowed from 3 to 2, but that the remaining ‘2’ have a highly skewed interest in not competing with each other… try running an auction against one person and see how far they are willing to fall.
