Milestone reached on $200M Joy Baluch AM Bridge Project
Traffic is now flowing across the newly constructed section of Port Augusta’s Joy Baluch AM Bridge duplication in South Australia, as work moves to focus on upgrading the existing section of the bridge.
The Joy Baluch AM Bridge is a crucial connection in the National Land Transport Network, enabling passenger, freight and tourist vehicles to move across the Spencer Gulf. It is also a key tourist connection to the Eyre Peninsula, northern South Australia and beyond.
The project involves the construction of a new bridge, adjacent to the existing two-lane Joy Baluch AM Bridge to allow for two lanes of traffic in both directions between Mackay Street (east of the bridge) and Burgoyne Street (west of the bridge).
The project includes upgrades to pedestrian and cyclist facilities, with connectivity provided from the new bridge to the East Side Foreshore.
The duplication will aim to improve road safety and efficiency for all users, enhance freight productivity and improve the resilience of the road link. The new infrastructure will also be safer for people walking or cycling across the bridge.
The works are being delivered by the Port Wakefield to Port Augusta (PW2PA) Regional Projects Alliance, a consortium that includes RA members CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors, Aurecon and GHD.
The $200 million duplication is being supported with investments from the Federal and the South Australian governments ($160 million from the Federal Government and $40 million from the South Australian Government).
