Melb Airport Awards T2/3 But Will It Get Built?

Melbourne Airport has awarded the $500m T2/T3 redevelopment contract to constructor Lendlease. The project includes a significant expansion of the T2 footprint adding more retail space, additional lounges and a public rooftop hospitality space with views of the runways.

The announcement was made under a cloud of uncertainty though as airlines stripped capacity in response to the CoVid19 travel bans being implemented around the world. Some may argue that this is the best time to launch major works whilst foot-traffic is reduced but equally the post-pandemic landscape for the air travel industry is unclear.

At this stage, works are expected to commence this year and be delivered by 2023.
