International Terminal for Avalon Airport

Plans to build an international terminal at Victoria’s Avalon Airport, near Geelong, will boost jobs and the state’s export markets.

The project is set to create more than 200 new jobs, including 33 positions during the construction phase.

Once complete, the airport will be capable of exporting 14 tons of fresh produce every day, and will see 220,000 international passengers land in Avalon each year.

The state government has invested $1.5 million in a new industrial precinct, helping secure Jetstar’s future at the airport and creating 750 new jobs, including Cotton On Group’s purpose-built distribution centre.

Minister for Industry and Employment Ben Carroll joined Minister for Tourism and Member for Lara John Eren to announce Air Asia will fly twice daily between Avalon and Kuala Lumpur, with flights expected by the end of 2018.

“We will always put local jobs first. That means working with Avalon Airport to create new jobs and open up new opportunities for ex-auto workers,” said Carroll.

“This is a big day for Avalon and a game changer for regional Victoria,” said Victoria’s Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford.

“We’re proud to support this project that will bring more international visitors to our state and see more quality produce exported to the world stage.”
