Grid Issues Continue to Drag on Renewables

Tilt Renewables has announced that its $650m Dundonnell wind farm is only running at 30% capacity due to issues with grid connection. The Western Victoria facility was certified in 2018 with a potential 336MW however new modelling by AEMO has since raised concerns around its impact on voltage in the network. Tilt advises that it is working with AEMO to develop a solution that will minimise the need for any further investment.
Grid capacity versus new developments coming online have plagued the sector for a number of years and came to a head with developer RCR Tomlinson entering administration in 2018. At the time, RCR claimed that issues with grid integration and receiving final project sign-offs led to significant exposure to damages.
