Elizabeth St closed due to ‘fallen metal’
A metal panel has fallen about 100 metres from a Melbourne CBD building hit by a crane cable, miraculously missing pedestrians passing below.
The two-metre aluminium panel was struck by the cable in high winds, with fire crews called to the scene — on the corner of Elizabeth and Franklin streets — at 6.15pm on Wednesday.
Emergency services shut down the surrounding area as an MFB high angle rescue team abseiled down the building to remove two other dislodged panels.
Roads reopened several hours later.
An MFB spokesman said it was lucky no-one was injured.
