CPB and Downer joint venture awarded Defence redevelopment contract

CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors and Downer have been selected by the Australian Government’s Department of Defence to deliver the Planning Phase of the Australian Defence Force’s proposed Riverina Redevelopment Program in New South Wales and Victoria.

The proposed Riverina Redevelopment Program involves the delivery of new or upgraded accommodation; upgrades to training facilities; consolidating and upgrading communal facilities; remediation works and upgrades to infrastructure services.

The Planning Phase of the proposed Riverina Redevelopment Program will be delivered in a 50:50 joint venture between CPB Contractors and Downer.

The program spans New South Wales and Victoria and incorporates three projects: the RAAF Base Wagga Redevelopment, the Albury-Wodonga Military Area Redevelopment and the Kapooka Military Area Redevelopment.

The project will generate revenue of $30 million each for CPB Contractors and Downer. Subject to Government and parliamentary approvals, a delivery phase may follow the successful completion of the planning phase and would involve an estimated $1.1 billion of works over five years for the joint venture.

CIMIC Group Chief Executive Officer Juan Santamaria said the company would work collaboratively with the Department of Defence.

“We are pleased to be selected to progress the large-scale redevelopment of these important Defence facilities, in support of Defence capability for the next 30 years,” Santamaria said.

The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn, said the proposed Riverina Redevelopment Program would continue Downer’s proud history of supporting Defence.
