The Future Melbourne Committee has approved a 21-storey development for 16-60 City Road, Southgate, owned by Singapore’s ARA Asset Management.
Currently the site hosts the HWT Tower and IBM Centre as well as retail opportunities over four levels, which will be demolished. The new tower will be a 39,000 sq metre office tower able to accommodate up to 4000 workers.
The Urban Developer reports that over 10,000 sq metres of shops will be included in the design, as well as an addition of 2,000 sq metres of north-facing public space, which will connect to Southgate’s riverfront boulevard and the nearby arts precinct. Fender Katsalidis have designed the new tower.
The tower is targeting a 5-Star Green Star and 5.5-star Nabers rating.
