Building Ministers Solve Cladding Crisis… not really

The nations building ministers met in Canberra on Friday to finally provide a solution to the cladding crisis that has plagued the industry for the past 1.5 years. In a masterstroke designed to provide the industry with certainty and clarity around the future, they decided to meet again next February.
Building surveyors and certifiers have now been in limbo since June/July when most had their PI policies either modified to exclude cladding coverage or were cancelled altogether. The State Government passed an amendment to allow work to proceed without full PI coverage but this is hardly a solution. And so, 2019 ends much like 2018 did – seemingly no closer to actually solving the issue.
