10 further level crossings to be removed in Melbourne
The Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) has announced that 10 more level crossings will be removed by 2025, bringing the total to 85 removed altogether.
Level crossings will be removed on the Pakenham, Lilydale, Belgrave, Frankston, Sunbury and Mernda lines, improving safety, reducing congestion and creating 4000 new jobs.
Removing these extra crossings will make the Cranbourne/Pakenham and Lilydale lines level crossing-free, allowing more trains to run on the network, more often, without frustration boom gate delays.
Work is underway at more than 20 sites across Melbourne, so it makes sense to get rid of these extra level crossings while crews are already on the ground, maximising efficiencies and ensuring more crossings can go sooner.
