28 Construction Industry Deaths so far in 2017
Latest Safe Work Australia figures show 157 Australian workers have been killed at work so far this year. Transport postal and warehousing has once again emerged as the most fatal industry, with 58 workplace deaths.
The Agriculture, forestry & fishing industry recorded 43 fatalities. The construction industry comes third, with 28 fatalities, while Arts & recreation services, with 8 fatalities comes fourth.
Other industries that have seen fatalities in 2017 include Manufacturing (5), Public administration & safety (4) and Electricity, gas, water & waste services (3).
Others include Mining (3) and Accommodation & food services (2). Rental, hiring & real estate services, Health care & social assistance and Retail trade are at 1 fatality each.
Safe Work Australia says these figures are based on initial media reports and are a preliminary estimate of the number of people killed while working.
Overall there have been 12 less workplace fatalities than the same time last year, however construction industry fatalities are up by 2.
